Highway 3 was closed to traffic on for several hours on Saturday after a vehicle lost control and went over an embankment.

At 7:20 a.m., RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 3 near Richter Pass west of Osoyoos.

A tractor trailer was heading east bound on Highway 3 when it lost control on the icy highway and drove through the barrier, coming to rest hanging over the embankment, said Osoyoos RCMP Sargent Jason Bayda.

The driver and sole occupant was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

Highway 3 was closed for several hours while the vehicle was recovered from the embankment and was reopened in both directions around 2:30 p.m.
