Wildfires burning west of Osoyoos are sending clouds of smoke through the South Okanagan.

A fire on Placer Mountain south of Princeton, which was discovered yesterday, was burning at 50 hectares as of 5:00 p.m. today, according to BC Wildfire Service.

Currently 33 firefighters and two helicopters are working to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Another fire at Scully Mountain west of Osoyoos is currently burning at 400 hectares.

The fires are only two of over 30 burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre, including eight wildfires of note (fires that are highly visible or pose a threat to public safety).

All of the wildfires of note are in the Okangan Valley between Mount Conkle southwest of Summerland and Carrot Mountain west of Kelowna.

Earlier today a fire at Mount Conkle resulted in a closure on Highway 97 between Summerland and Peachland.
