Dear Editor:
The editor of a B.C. newspaper asked the question recently to find out of anybody had any good ideas to tackle B.C.’s growing debt of $62 billion and the obvious inability by Christy Clark, or any political party, to solve it.
This affects the teachers/education dilemma, healthcare and many other social services.
And this affects me personally as well, as in the not-to-distant future, I am going to need knee replacement surgery.
After a six-month wait, I have not even had a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. I am not a critical case yet, but there are many people who are suffering in pain for a long time who are waiting for surgery and have not even had an MRI screening.
No political party can offer any solution that will not require that future generations will pay for this debt – that is unpayable anyways – otherwise we would not be in debt.
Money, debt, poverty and war are man-made problems and can be corrected.
The Earth and its resources are the real thing and belong to nobody. We’re only temporary stewards, and lousy ones at that.
Imagine if intelligent space aliens were to visit the home of a Conservative, Liberal, NDP or Green Party leader and their families.
They would find no difference in family life, as we all have the same needs and we all have a desire that our descendant’s needs would be met in the future.
But very few of those needs will be met if we continue to carry on as usual.
Wisdom comes with age and has nothing to do with being tech savvy and having lots of money, otherwise Bill Gates and Steve Jobs could have thought about co-operation, because the rare element/materials that will be required for all the technical ‘gadgets’ we are so enamoured with will not last this century.
Even Pierre Elliot Trudeau got wise in his retirement years and wrote in his book, Lifting the Shadow of War, “Co-operation is no longer advantageous, in order to survive it is an absolute necessity.”
There is no eureka moment folks.
It would take a very long letter to the editor to explain all of the reasons why we are in this predicament, but for now I’ll invite you, and anybody interested to explore the concepts of utopia or oblivion, by visiting http://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/2011/11/20/utopia-or-oblivion-by-gunther-ostermann/
I would gladly discuss this with anybody who cares for the welfare of humanity and our planet.
Only with honesty, truth, fairness and justice can there be a healthy future for our species.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share this with your readers.
