Grocery supply chains are pivoting away from Vancouver to Alberta in a bid to keep shelves stocked at Buy-Low Foods and AG Foods in Osoyoos and Oliver.
Responding to Times-Chronicle queries, Buy-Low Foods – which along with AG Foods is part of the Jim Pattison Group – says restocking is already underway.
“Groceries are en route and may have already been delivered to the Oliver and Osoyoos stores from our facility in Alberta,” the spokesperson said. “We are adapting by shipping from Alberta and exploring opportunities to ship through the US.”
The grocery chain added that limits are being addressed on a location-by-location basis and “we are asking that people only purchase their immediate needs as we catch up from this unexpected interruption in distribution.
“We remain confident that stores will be restocked to the best of our ability over the coming days.”
The spokesperson added that all grocers in BC are experiencing unusually high demand from consumers concerned about the food supply.
“As Premier Horgan has already advised, there is no need to panic – the food distribution network is resilient and will recover from the road interruptions as quickly as possible.”
