Here I thought all this time that I was living in a country that was considered to be a democracy.
Not only does our esteemed Premier withdraw the promise of a tax cut for lower income people of this province now, but this government seems to be leaning towards governing us with intimidation.
How so you ask?
A recent article in the Province newspaper implied that a vote to abolish the HST in this province would lead to a whole host of massive increases in other taxes for the general public from gasoline taxes to lessened home owner grants.
How did we come to this from a supposedly “revenue neutral” tax foisted upon us by this government in the first place without any consultation at any level is what I would like to know?
If that kind of news item isn’t intimidation then I sure don’t know what is.
It appears that the Liberals are unable to justify the HST in a way that the public in this province will accept, so their alternative seems to be to threaten us with a barrage of other tax increases to make up for the massive debts that they have incurred.
