Although being a long time driver with many miles under my belt, it never occurred to me that there might be rules concerning crosswalks.

I have discovered that not just painted crosswalks, but all intersections are legal crosswalks in British Columbia.

It is worth pointing out that legal points are defined in Section 179 in the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act and they are as follows:

– A driver is required to stop for any pedestrian who is in the crosswalks provided that the pedestrian is on the same side of the road as the driver.

– A driver is not, however, required to stop for a pedestrian who is not on the driver’s side unless he or she is closely approaching the driver’s side of the road.

– The pedestrian must set foot on the roadway in order to require the oncoming vehicle to stop and give way.

-A pedestrian must not walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close it is impossible for the driver to stop safely.

Thanks for allowing me the space.
