It’s that time of year again… when we all feel a couple of pounds heavier and worry about the many excesses of the festive season. But don’t let it get you down! There are plenty of ways to shed those extra pounds and get yourself back into fighting fit shape, wherever you are in Oliver. If you’ve been keeping a close eye on the latest news from our town, you may already know this (or maybe you’ve even participated in previous years), but 2014 welcomes the 4th annual ‘Lose It for Life’ Challenge. Organized and run by Oliver’s own Parks and Recreation department, the challenge is a fantastic way to lose weight, get in shape, and be an active member of Oliver’s community – you never know who you might meet!
An introduction to ‘Lose It for Life’
So what exactly does it take to participate in (and hopefully complete) the Oliver ‘Lose It for Life’ challenge? Well, the high level overview is that it’s a 12-week commitment to totally transforming your fitness routines and eating habits in the most positive way. Even better, this year the program has been designed to be a holistic and systematic way to set and achieve realistic goals. We all know how frustrating it can be to set ourselves fitness goals and then fall short of them; the ‘Lose It for Life’ challenge has been developed to avoid this from happening, giving you the confidence boost and real sense of pride that comes from shedding pounds and seeing yourself in the best shape of your life. You’ll be the envy of Oliver in just 12 short weeks!
The challenge in detail

Well, you’ll be interested in the exact contents of the ’Lose It for Life’ challenge for this year – and we got ‘em! It’s important to note that the program has been developed with the help of Biggest Loser trainer Teresa Maurer, so you know you’re in the hands of professionals. And don’t forget, even if you don’t complete the 12 week program, you’ll still reap all of the benefits of doing the extra exercise, in body and mind alike. Here’s what you can expect from the program:
- Complete nutritional info every step of the way
- A 10-class ‘Flex Pass’ to various fitness classes
- Access to multiple wellness seminars
- Prizes to be won!
- Your very own participation t-shirt
- 3 months of free weight room access
A healthier Oliver for everyone
Most everyone knows what the keys benefits of an exercise program like this one are: improved circulation, better lean muscle mass, fat loss – to name a few. And then there’s the social side of the experience, too, in that you can mingle with many different folks from across Oliver. Whilst this is just a small town, there are still many of the social issues that you’d find in larger cities. Alcoholism, for example, is as widespread here as it is anywhere else in Canada. Exercise can genuinely help with problems such as drug addiction, alcohol abuse, depression, anxiety, and more. We would always encourage anyone that feels as though they have an insurmountable problem with something like alcohol to try a program like ‘Lose It for Life’. It’s beneficial in so many ways, and is just 12 short weeks – so it has to be worth a try at least once. If everyone in Oliver tried the program, we’d all have healthier body and minds, and be a real inspiration to the rest of the country at the same time.
What are you waiting for?
So are you sold on the benefits of ‘Lose It for Life’? If so, the program is starting as we speak (January), and you can take part for just $125. That’s much cheaper than a gym membership! For more information about the program, or to get started today, please contact the Oliver Parks and Recreation department on (250) 498-4985. It’d be fantastic to see as many Oliver inhabitants as possible taking part in the 4th annual ‘Lose It for Life’ program – and you’ll be truly amazed at how fantastic it’ll make you feel. Don’t let those January Blues get you down, get involved, get active – and get fit!
