A fundraiser coming to Nk’Mip Cellars on July 13 is aiming to raise awareness about human trafficking.
A patio reception open to 100 guests will benefit REED (Resist Exploitation Embrace Dignity), an organization that seeks to end the human trafficking of women and girls into the sex trade, event organizer Terri Postnikoff said.
“I reached out to Nk’Mip Cellars, as indigenous women and girls are over represented in human/sex trafficking arena, and they are very excited to be a part of this fundraiser,” she said.
Participants will dine a fry bread taco dinner, paired with a glass of Nk’Mip Cellars wine, while enjoying live music from Osoyoos’ Diane Ball and a silent auction.
“The evening is shaping up to be a wonderful evening of food, wine and music with the added benefit that we can get the message out about what is happening everyday in Canada, in B.C., even here in Osoyoos,” Postnikoff said.

Trisha Baptie, a survivor of domestic violence, human trafficking and prostitution is the event’s guest speaker.
Baptie, a citizen journalist, is known for her coverage of the Pickton trial in Vancouver.
“Trisha has gone on to speak internationally, to the highest levels of government and to intervene on cases in the Supreme Court,” Postnikoff said. “She is a dynamic and compelling speaker.”
Osoyoos Soroptimists are sponsoring the event and local businesses are contributing silent auction items.
Tickets are $49 and available at Mills Office Supply or eventbrite.ca.
