The province continues to monitor the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Kelowna outbreak, as well as the four cases related to an Oliver cherry farm.

Yesterday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed the additional cases linked to Krazy Cherry Fruit Company. She also noted that cases have increased to 27 in the Kelowna outbreak. Of those, 18 live in the Interior Health region, while nine are from the Fraser Health region.

In total, there have been 223 cases of COVID-19 in the Interior Health region.

A total of 189 people in B.C. have died from the virus, while 2,789 have fully recovered.

While Henry has expressed concern about the increase in cases, she noted that B.C. has been very effective in flattening the curve. In fact, she reported that community infection rates have stayed below one per cent in B.C. Fewer than one in 100 residents were infected as of May.

But Henry pointed out that most B.C. residents are still susceptible to the virus.

She encouraged people to wear masks while shopping, especially those travelling on transit buses.
