A five-game winning streak- including three consecutive victories last week – has the Osoyoos Coyotes back in first place in their division in the Kootenay International Hockey League.

After defeating the North Okanagan Knights on home ice by a 4-1 score last Wednesday night, the Coyotes marched into Chase and easily beat the hometown Heat by a score of 7-2. They wrapped up a perfect weekend Saturday night on home ice with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

Daniel Stone scored with only nine seconds remaining in overtime as the Coyotes came back from a 2-0 deficit to claim the victory over Revelstoke.

The victory put the Coyotes at the top of the KIJHL’s Okanagan Division as they are tied with the Summerland Steam with 32 points, but have a game in hand.

Saturday’s contest was the second meeting this season between Osoyoos and Revelsoke with the Coyotes taking the season opener 5-2 in Revelstoke.

The Grizzlies jumped to a 2-0 first period lead, however, the Coyotes finally got into the game in the second period.

Austin Steger scored on the powerplay 2:22 into the second period, then added a second powerplay goal just over five minutes later to tie the game.

The Coyotes took their first lead of the game on Hunter Johnson’s goal with just over three minutes remaining in the period.

Revelstoke played tough and came back to tie the score twice in the third period, including a goal with only 58 seconds remaining in regulation time after Judd Repole had given the Coyotes a 4-3 lead with under four minutes remaining in the third period.

Ryan Roseboom added four assists for the Coyotes and now has 20 points in the 13 games he’s played.

Against Chase, The Coyotes allowed the first goal, but then two goals in five minutes –sandwiched between another Chase goal – to leave the first period tied at 2-2. Jackson Glimpel and Austin Cleaver scored the goals for the Coyotes.

After Colton Rhodes scored the lone goal of the second period, the Coyotes broke things open in the third period with four unanswered goals. The goals were scored by Cleaver, Hunter Johnson, Carter Robinson and Sam Reinbolt.

Against the North Okanagan Knights, the game was scoreless until early in the second period when Connor Onstein put the Coyotes on the board. Roseboom increased the lead to 2-0 10 minutes later.

North Okanagan scored what would be their only goal of the contest on a power play late in the second period.

Colin Bell extended the lead to 3-1 midway through the third period and Repole scored an empty net goal to finish the scoring.

The Coyotes play in Enderby Friday evening for a rematch with the Knights.

The team is home at the Sun Bowl Saturday evening in a big game against the Summerland Steam. Game time is 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena.
