Oliver firefighters had to use the “jaws of life” to extricate an elderly female trapped in a car that smashed into a tree off Ryegrass Road on Tuesday.
Sergeant Ken Harrington from the Oliver RCMP said the driver suffered minor injuries.
The officer noted that alcohol and speed were not an issue in the accident. It is suspected the driver lost control, he said, adding that charges are not expected.
Firefighters had to work quickly and delicately to rescue the lady.
“The Oliver Fire Department performed flawlessly in the extrication of the driver from her vehicle,” Harrington said.
Area C director Allan Patton was initially on scene to help the motorist. He said if it wasn’t for his wife hearing the crash, the trapped driver may not have been discovered for a long time.
