Oliver firefighters had to brave extreme temperatures during two calls Sunday night.

The first was power lines down near Road 15.

“The extreme cold and wind caused a line to snap and arc while on the ground,” said fire department spokesman Rob Graham.

Fire crews closed Highway 97 until FortisBC arrived.

As firefighters were clearing that scene, another call came in for a vehicle fire on McKinney Road.

“Crews were quick to put it out and a second truck had to be called in due to lines freezing up on the first responding unit,” Graham said.

There was no report of cause, injuries or extent of damage.

This is the second vehicle fire on McKinney Road in two weeks.
