Anarchist Mountain residents vote
Anarchist Mountain residents voted Saturday whether or not to approve the establishment of the Anarchist Mountain Fire Protection Service Area.
The referendum passed by an overwhelming margin: 36 in favour and three against.
The area falls inside a portion of Electoral Area A and and Saturday's vote ensure fire protection services will be available to area residents.
Additionally, voters agreed to:
1) authorize the borrowing of $295,000 for the implementation and operation of the Anarchist Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (AMVFD), and
2) annually requisition up to a maximum of $65,000 or $2.32/$1,000 of taxable assessed value to pay for the fire protection service.
Area A Director Eike Scheffler said the results were enthusiastic and decisive.
We had about ten people who wanted to vote but couldn't because they are not yet Canadian citizens, Scheffler said.
There was a lot of interest and voters overwhelmingly agreed to move forward. Now it's just a matter of adopting the bylaw.rnThe Anarchist Mountain Volunteer Fire Department will be qualified on three levels, including 911 Emergency or First Responder.
Next, we will invite the rest of Anarchist Mountain to join, Scheffler said.
The AMVFD will have a reciprocal relationship with the town. The two departments will help each other and everyone will benefit, he added.
