An emergency funding request for the Willowbrook Fire Department has been granted after it was discovered that incompatible positioning of infrastructure was causing improper refilling of their fire truck’s water supply.
The Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) received the request for an amount of $6,000 to repair the fire truck from the operating reserves. Willowbrook’s fire truck, unit T253, was purchased in 2024 and was originally thought to be compatible with the fire station’s original fill port.
The result, however, was that the port caused reduced water flow due to coming into contact with the engine’s bulkhead, which affected both the truck and the fill port. The fill port has since been reinstalled in a better position, with additional plumbing being built to facilitate the relocation.
Members of the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department, it was noted, put significant volunteer time into relocating the fill port. The $6,000 amount adds on to $10,000 transferred to Willowbrook from the Community Works Fund for fire services in the Town.
Because the request would be funded through operating reserves, there will be no direct financial impact on residents.
