It took a perfect storm to cause flooding at Fairview Mountain Golf Club.
In 35 years of operations, the course is dealing with excessive levels of water for the first time.
Head golf pro Charlie Martin said the flooding was caused by a number of factors: “abnormal amount of precipitation; the fact that the snow is all melting at once and then combine that with the controlled burn that happened here a number of years ago, so there’s not as much vegetation to soak that water up,” he said.
“It’s a unique situation but we’re doing our best to manage it.”
Their efforts are mitigating the flow of water as nature runs its course.
“You can divert it as responsibly as possible and make sure it’s causing as little damage to the facility as possible,” said Martin.
Despite the unwanted water hazards, there’s been no interruption at the course where it’s business as usual. Golfers will only notice some signage and a temporary bridge.
