For the first time since 2019, the Osoyoos Festival Society has been given the green light to present their Easter Eggstravaganza, and to say that the news put a spring in their step would be an understatement.
Society president Ken Baker says that the past two years have done nothing to dim the optimism of their members and volunteers, whose reaction to the news he sums up in one word: “Yahoo!”
“As all of our events are outside, we feel confident that we will be able to proceed with all of them: Easter Eggstravaganza, Canada Day events and parade, and our Christmas Liteup Parade,” says Baker.
“All we need is a nice sunny day, and with Easter being later this year, that should happen!”
The 26th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza, which takes place on Saturday, April 16, will see a change of venue from past years to Gyro Park, located downtown at 15 Park Place.
There, festival goers will be treated to the usual pancake breakfast, an easter egg hunt with three different age categories, and the Kiwanis annual bike and trike decorating competition, which Baker would like to see capped off with a colourful mini-parade.
“We may get some of the many e-bikers in town to decorate their bikes and join in the fun, displaying their bikes along the waterfront of Gyro Park,” says Baker, who regrets that the traditional parade along Main Street has become too costly to bring back.
Local entertainer Diane Ball will provide live music for the festivities, which will also include games and prizes for children of all ages.
Festivities begin with the pancake breakfast at 8:00 am, followed by the easter egg hunt at 10:30 am. All events will take place at Gyro Park.
