COMINGS & GOINGS OF A COUPLE OF IMPORTANT LOCAL PEOPLE

(OSOYOOS TIMES — May 9, 2007) —

Two stories in this week's Times mark more of the natural comings and goings of people who are important players in our community.
We mark the retirement of Dick Pratt, the 27-year veteran caretaker at Osoyoos Elementary School, Osoyoos Secondary School and the Osoyoos Learning Centre.
The affection the students held for him, and vice-versa, are touching reminders that we have many wonderful people working in all sorts of jobs in Osoyoos keeping the nuts and bolts of our community working smoothly.
Dick will be missed at the schools, by students and staff alike, and we all owe him a big thank you for helping to keep the halls of learning “ along with the classrooms, gyms and theatres “ clean, safe and healthy for everyone.
Best of luck as you try your hand at tending vineyards in the future, Dick!

As one person leaves an Osoyoos position, another comes into our community.
We're very fortunate to have Corporal Dan Moskaluk arrive here to join our local RCMP detachment.
He comes with a wealth of experience that will add to the breadth and depth of our local force.
Along with the existing officers and detachment commander Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski, we have a complement of Mounties that we can be proud of, and that we can feel certain will be able to keep the peace in our growing town.
Interestingly, Moskaluk's experience includes two stints in Haiti, as part of the RCMP contingent training Haitian police. No doubt that was a dangerous and daunting situation, but one that likely gave Moskaluk a great perspective on police work back in Canada.
Welcome, Cpl. Moskaluk. We look forward to your help in making Osoyoos an even better community!
