OSOYOOS PLAYS HELPFUL HOST FOR B.C. RURAL SUMMIT
Osoyoos put itself on the B.C. map with bolder print this weekend when it hosted about 175 delegates from across the province at the two-day B.C. Rural Summit.
Local leaders note it was a coup in the first place to attract the Rural Summit here “ and in the end the town did itself a lot of good by doing a great job of hosting the large conference.
Everyone at the Sonora Community Centre, Destination Osoyoos and the Community Futures of Okanagan-Similkameen development agency are to be commended for their efforts in bringing off a major meeting that will do great things for Osoyoos' reputation.
Speakers at the Summit noted that political and economic structures are changing, and at the same time rural areas face their age-old problem of trying to compete with the much bigger, stronger and richer cities for the attention of provincial and federal governments and business investors.
But they noted with some optimism that the growing organizational skills of rural communities “ and the promising numbers of youth at this Summit “ mean that we in rural areas are increasingly able to compete for attention and for economic and social development initiatives.
This week, Osoyoos did its part for this cause.
