NHL fiasco

There will be no NHL season this year. In the record books the season 2004-05 will be left blank. No MVPs, no regular season champs, and no Stanley Cup winner.
Few words can describe the cancellation of the NHL hockey season. Except of course ludicrous, ridiculous, asinine, unbelievable.
Okay, perhaps there are lots of words to describe the cancellation.
It doesn't really matter which side you are on, or which side you choose to blame.
Everything is wrong about the cancellation of the NHL season.
It doesn't make sense.
It is hard to listen to billionaire owners, who absolutely control their own destiny when contracts are offered and signed, complain about cost certainty. At the same time it is equally impossible to sympathize with toothless hockey players paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to play a game most of us pay to play.
When the working classes first went on strike to fight for enough money just to survive, and working conditions that had some semblence of safety, we can't help but wonder if they envisioned the concept of a strike being used for millionaires to fight billionaires?rnThe NHL strike/lockout is just an example of the massive obesity of our western society.
While the rest of the world battles the evils of civil war, poverty, starvation and AIDs epidemics, our greatest battle is whether or not we will be able to watch hockey on TV.
The insanity of it is absolutely mind boggling.
