COMING TOGETHER OF IRRIGATION DISTRICT COMMUNITY INSPIRATIONAL

OSOYOOS TIMES-October 29, 2008

There was something really special about a gathering that took place at the Osoyoos Legion on the evening of Oct. 23.

Residents of the Osoyoos Irrigation District-East Bench had come out to tackle a serious issue facing their community.

Although they face some tough challenges down the road when it comes to the future of their water system and some very valid concerns and frustrations were voiced, the residents who attended the meeting should be proud of themselves.

And the larger Osoyoos community should take notice.

There was an unspoken rallying cry of we will face what comes together within the gathering and just seeing so many come out to raise questions or concerns was inspirational.

At a time when so few of us attend Osoyoos town council, School District 53 or Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen meetings and yet so many of us complain about what is happening in this area, it was refreshing to see people at least show up and make it known they would play a part in whatever was to come for their community.

We can all take a cue from this kind of participation.
