A driver from Grand Forks faces a fitness review and two Motor Vehicle Act charges following a mishap north of Oliver on Feb. 9.

Oliver RCMP say that a complainant reported a collision on Highway 97 at McIntyre Creek bridge at approximately 2:40 p.m. When police arrived, they observed an unoccupied GMC Sierra with a trailer, both of which sustained significant damage. No injuries were reported.

According to police, a witness stated that he had seen the male driver stash a box of beer underneath the bridge prior to police arrival. Police followed up with the registered owner, who admitted to driving but denied any alcohol and stated that he just fell asleep. He explained that his son came to pick him up so he left the scene.

Police say the 56-year-old man will undergo a driver fitness review by ICBC and face two charges including driving without due care and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
