Access to some downtown businesses is more difficult today due to parking restrictions in the block between 85th Street and Spartan Drive.

The north side of Main Street was torn up recently to install a storm sewer in a project that will be ongoing until late in April.

But parking on the south side of Main Street is now also affected.

Today (March 9) parking is prohibited on both sides of Main Street on that block.

Parking will also be restricted on an “as-needed” basis for the duration of the project, said the contractor, H&M Excavating Ltd., in a statement on the Town of Osoyoos website.

“We had hoped to keep this parking available for the duration of the project,” said the statement. “Unfortunately, because traffic is alternating direction, it has become a safety concern with parked cars backing out.”

The new storm sewer is intended to resolve flooding issues in the 85th Street area that have occurred in previous years.
