If we build it . . . will they come?
That is the question that the Double O Quilters Guild are asking themselves as they finalize preparations for their show, Quilts and Beyond slated for Friday, April 11 from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday April 12 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Oliver Community Centre.
Perhaps you have noticed quilted items appearing in local businesses the last few days to draw your attention to the upcoming show.
Guild members have assembled approximately 200 quilts and fabric arts ready for display, and in addition the “Fabricators” will be exhibiting their complete “Seasons of the Okanagan” calendar. Ten out of the 14 members of the Fabricators are current or past members of the guild. Also shown will be the items made for the “Bead Inspired” challenge within the guild.
There will be demonstrations of various skills, and some hands-on during both days.
Five out-of-town merchants have been confirmed and attendees will have the opportunity to bid on items in the silent auction.
Refreshments will be available – everything from tea and coffee to a full lunch.
Door prizes will be handed out regularly and attendees will be asked to vote for their favourite quilt.
Votes will be tallied after 2:30 pm on Saturday and two ribbons will be awarded – Best of Show (voted on by Guild members only) and Viewers Choice.
There are two guest quilters from the guild; one describes herself as largely traditional and the other is more innovative.
