Oliver RCMP and the Town of Oliver are looking for more information about a dog that viciously attacked a temporary resident of Oliver on November 5.

The 33-year-old man contacted police from South Okanagan General Hospital after being bitten by a canine while walking on the irrigation channel between Road 1 and Similkameen Avenue.

The complainant said he noticed the dog when it began following him. The man turned and told the dog to go home, but the animal continued to bark and follow him. The male gestured with his right arm for the dog to go and it responded by jumping up and biting his arm and pulling him forward. The dog then let go and bit the complainant on the right side of his face, according to the police report. The resulting injuries consisted of nine stitches to his arm and eight to his face.

The victim stated that he did nothing to antagonize the dog and was in fact scared of it.

The dog is described as medium size with short black fur, yellow paws, droopy ears and possibly yellow on the head area.

Oliver bylaw enforcement was notified and has requested that the victim attend the Town office to file a report. As of November 8, the victim has not come forward, said Corporate Officer Cathy Cowan.

Sergeant Ken Harrington from the Oliver RCMP said police will assist the Town on this matter.
