RAKThe Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS) is taking on a new challenge.

It is hosting a Random Act of Kindness (RAK) Day in the region on November 7.

The purpose is to boost community spirit, increase connectedness among citizens, promote “being nice” and increase feelings of gratitude among citizens.

The foundation will be printing several hundred posters and about 3,000 RAK cards.  RAK cards are essentially “pay it forward” cards that a person carries with them on the day.

When you perform a RAK for someone you give the recipient a RAK card and tell them “you’ve just been touched by a Random Act of Kindness. Please pay it forward.”

The foundation wants to know via Facebook, Twitter, email or phone when they perform a RAK so it can  tally the success rate.

The foundation is hoping that local businesses, schools and everyone in general will be interested in participating on November 7  and in the days leading up to the event.

Chartered accountant Jane Long from Osoyoos will be hosting a food and toy drive for Random Act of Kindness Day. She will match $1 for every pound of food and toys brought in.

All food donations brought in will go the local food bank, and the toys will be split between Salvation Army and going towards Christmas/holiday hampers.

The $1 matching will go towards buying turkey and ham dinners for the hampers, which will be given to local families in need.
