A new “health promoting schools” coordinator has been hired by the district.

Jennifer Martin, whose position is partially funded through a grant from Interior Health, will work in two key areas: mental well-being and healthy living.

Superintendent of Schools Bev Young said the overall goals for the coordinator include: increasing youth knowledge of vaping and substance use, increasing knowledge of healthy eating, and increasing youth leadership to promote mental health resiliency.

In term one, Martin will launch a bathroom stall campaign educating secondary school students about vaping (using e-cigarettes), which is a big concern among youth today.
