Oliver’s new Community Safety and Crime Prevention Committee is working on a final draft of its recommendations to Town council.
Although recent meetings have been closed to the public, chairperson Martin Johansen said the next gathering in September will be open to residents.
At the first meeting earlier this year, the committee discussed various concerns, such as “problem” houses in the community, property crime and speeders. One idea that was discussed to address these problems was closed-circuit television.
Johansen said he’s excited about the discussions with stakeholders regarding crime prevention initiatives and looks forward to discussing these further.
Corporate Officer Diane Vaykovich said the first meeting was open to the public, but the subsequent ones were closed “to provide RCMP the ability to speak openly.”
