The Osoyoos Coyotes continued their undefeated winning streak last week chalking up three more victories.

Victories on home ice over Princeton and Revelstoke last Wednesday and Saturday respectively, and a road victory Friday over Sicamous, gave the Coyotes 10 consecutive victories to start the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) season.

They are the only undefeated team in the league.

The wins were less lopsided than some of their victories earlier in the season.

In last Wednesday’s game the Coyotes came from behind to force overtime and skated away with a thrilling 5-4 victory in the second overtime period.

On Friday in Sicamous, the Coyotes eked out another 5-4 win.

Saturday’s 6-3 home victory over Revelstoke was more decisive, but it wasn’t until the third period that the Coyotes led by more than a single goal.

In the Princeton game, Colten Braid opened the scoring for the Coyotes late in the first period, but a minute and a half later the Posse tied the score.

Troy Maclise and Brett Jewell scored early in the second period to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead, but the Posse came back late in the period with three goals, two of them just 20 seconds apart, at the end of the period.

Jewell scored his second of the game on a power play in the third period, ending regulation time in a 4-4 tie.

Rookie Ryan Roseboom scored the winner with 3:52 remaining in the second overtime period.

In Friday’s game at Sicamous, the Eagles scored early in the period, but Osoyoos came back with goals by Maclise and rookie Darryl Senholt.

The Coyote lead disappeared just 14 seconds after Senholt’s goal with the Eagles scoring to end the period 2-2.

The Coyotes scored two unanswered goals in the second period with Rory Neary and rookie Colin Bell getting credit.

Sicamous narrowed the Coyotes’ lead in the third period before Roseboom scored the game winner with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Roseboom picked up two assists earlier in the game and he now leads the Coyotes’ rookies in point standings with three goals and nine assists.

Despite another Eagles goal on a power play late in the period, Sicamous was unable to close the gap and the game ended 5-4 for Osoyoos.

Back home at the Sun Bowl Arena on Saturday night, the Revelstoke Grizzlies opened the scoring near the halfway mark in the first period on a power play.

Rookie Drew Carter scored for Osoyoos less than two minutes later to end the period in a 1-1 tie.

Less than a minute into the second period, Aaron Azevedo slipped the puck past a confused goalie Mark Becica.

Revelstoke and Osoyoos took turns scoring through the remainder of the second period, with Coyote goals going to Rainer Glimpel and Maclise, the latter on a power play while Revelstoke was playing two men short.

The period ended 4-3 for Osoyoos.

Most of the third period remained scoreless. Only late in the period did Azevedo clinch the Coyotes’ lead with a power play goal.

In the final minute of play, Revelstoke took a chance and pulled Becica. The move, however, backfired when Neary gained control of the puck and fired it into the empty net with just 20 seconds remaining.

The Coyotes will again face the Sicamous Eagles at the Sun Bowl on Friday evening at 7:35 p.m. Then on Saturday and Monday they play road games in Chase and Summerland, respectively.
