The Osoyoos Coyotes shut out the Revelstoke Grizzlies 2-0 in Revelstoke Friday night, paving the way to possibly take the series on home ice Saturday.

The Coyotes now lead the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference finals 3-2 heading into the sixth game at the Sun Bowl Arena.

Daniel Paul earned the shutout as the Coyotes faced numerous shots in the second and third periods.

The only two goals of the game were both scored in the second period.

Sam Reinbolt scored on a power play less than five minutes into the second period, with Connor Onstein and Hunter Johnson assisting.

Then very late in the period, Jackson Barrett made it 2-0 for the Coyotes. Judd Repole and Colin Bell got the assists.

The Coyotes’ penalty killing was put to the test in the third period when they had two players in the box for a minute and 46 seconds, playing five to three. Despite intense pressure, Paul and the Coyotes kept the Grizzlies at bay.

“I’m very proud of these guys,” said Randy Bedard, Coyotes owner. “They were getting it done, but they’re tired. I’m very proud of how they’re playing.”

The Coyotes were headed back to Osoyoos after the game, said Bedard, adding that they’ll get in late and probably try to sleep in and get rested in preparation for Saturday’s game.

Meanwhile, Kimberley eliminated Nelson 2-1 in the second period of overtime Friday night, taking their series in six games. Kimberley will face the winner of the Osoyoos-Revelstoke series in the league finals.

Bedard said he’s expecting a large crowd at the Sun Bowl Arena Saturday to cheer on the local team as they could take the series. Game time is 7:35 p.m.

If the Coyotes don’t win Saturday, the series returns to Revelstoke for a seventh and deciding game.
