After nearly two winless months, the Osoyoos Coyotes have shaken off their bad luck, bringing in three points this weekend.
The team visited Kamloops on Nov. 8 where they won their first game of the season, triumphing over the Kamloops Storm 3-1.
The following night the Coyotes hosted the 100 Mile House Wranglers at Sun Bowl Arena and tied the game, bringing their record to 1-15-1-2.
“I’m excited for the boys to have that win,” head coach Dean Maynard said. “That’s a big accomplishment, especially having three points in two games.”
Forward Blake Astorino brought in the first goal against Kamloops on Nov. 8, shortly followed by another from Jack Henderson.
The Storm sunk a short-handed goal in the second period, but less than a minute later Henderson responded with his second.
Goalie Curt Doyle stopped 33 of the 34 shots against him.

At home in Osoyoos, the 100 Mile House Wranglers started off the Nov. 9 game with two points in the first period. Two power play goals from Jordan Wood in the second and Astorino in the third tied the game. A scoreless overtime period left the game at a tie.
Doyle knocked away 41 of 43 shots against him.
Maynard credits the team’s breakthrough to relentless game play, both over the weekend and the entire season.
“They haven’t stopped playing hard for the last 19 games,” he said. “We’ve got such good attitude in our room that I think it’s been hard to see them lose because they work so hard and they’ve accomplished so many different things.”
Among accomplishments is being able to “finish plays.”

“When they have a scoring opportunity they get it done,” Maynard said.
Maynard also thanked the 329 fans that supported the Coyotes at Sun Bowl Arena on Saturday.
“That means a lot to the players, having that amount of people coming out and supporting them, especially in the times they’re in right now.”
The Coyotes hit the road again on Friday to take on the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Nov. 15 and the Fernie Ghostriders on Nov. 16.
“Those two teams are definitely tough teams,” Maynard said. “They’re up in their league so we’re going there with everything on the table and making sure they know who the Osoyoos Coyotes are.”
The Coyotes are back on home ice Nov. 20 when they host the Summerland Steam. Puck drops at 7:35 p.m.
