The Town of Oliver has expressed concern about an application by Telus Communications to install a pole line west of Leighton Crescent.

The issue was discussed at a recent council meeting, where it was noted that the proposed installation would be a “visual eyesore” in the community.

Municipal Manager Tom Szalay said the Town of Oliver and its surrounding lands have been identified as a primary growth area within the RDOS Regional Growth Strategy.

He noted the pole line traverses the proposed growth area and would negatively affect development flexibility in the area.

Szalay said one of the areas identified for urban expansion is the hillside area southwest of Leighton Crescent.

The Telus application calls for a 10-metre wide corridor of 13 poles and associated cables and anchors near the west end of the crescent. The length of the corridor will be 965 metres.

The line will provide upgraded telecommunications service in the Oliver area.
