Adopting a parks and trails master plan and reducing the impact of future policing costs are among top priorities that Town council will discuss in February.

On Monday, council set February 21 as the date for its half-day workshop to review its priorities.

These include the following: Determine a location best suited for the Town office to effectively serve the public; engage the business community to encourage façade improvements; and work with the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce to reduce vacancies in the downtown core.

Another priority is engaging the public to determine the best use of Town-owned lands downtown.

Council is also forging ahead with revitalizing Station Street and developing a tax strategy to reduce policing costs when the Town surpasses 5,000 in population.

Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Cowan is continuing to lobby the federal government for siphon repair funding, as well as preparing for the automated cart (garbage and recycling) program coming to Oliver.

Cowan is also taking care of a grant application for a feasibility study for a new aquatic centre for Oliver and Osoyoos.
