Completion rates up among Indigenous students
More local Indigenous students are graduating, new provincial statistics show.
The B.C. Ministry of Education’s six-year completion rates report an increase in Indigenous learner completion in the Okanagan-Similkameen.
In the 2018/2019 school year, six-year completion rates for Indigenous students are 65.4 per cent, an increase from 56.3 per cent the previous year.
“This is the highest rate of completion the past five years,” board chair Rob Zandee said in a report.
The board anticipates an even stronger completion rate for 2019/20, and more details will be presented at the school board’s Dec. 11 meeting, Zandee said.
