Several local non-profit initiatives have benefited from the Town of Osoyoos’ Community Service Grant Program.
On Monday, town council approved $65,000 to 22 local groups, which can be used for special events, facility rentals, tax requirements, special projects and insurance expenses.
The Town received over 25 applications and over $100,000 in grant requests.
Bringing in the most funding were the Osoyoos Festival Society and ($7,000) and the Canada Day Fireworks ($6,000).
Other grants included $3,000 towards a new sound system and chairs at the Elks Lodge, $3,000 for renovations and upgrades at the curling rink, and $3,000 for card tables and chairs at the
Osoyoos Seniors Centre.
The South Okanagan Integrated Community Services Society’s Osoyoos Community Kitchen also got a $5,000 funding boost.
Funding for new computers was also granted to the Osoyoos Museum Society and the School After School Society.
Both the Osoyoos Lake Paddle Club and Cactus Jalopies requested grant funding but were not approved because they were awarded Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funding earlier this year.
