Cody O’Connor would not have been Cody if he didn’t have a mischievous side.

That’s why his mother Amanda said she was going to miss her “I didn’t do it” and “It wasn’t me” guy.

These were her words at Cody’s funeral last Thursday in Penticton.

Cody passed away at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice September 13 after being taken off life support. He suffered serious burns in a motorhome fire in Oliver on August 28.

The family requested that people attending the funeral wear bright clothing during the celebration of life, which was attended by many, including members of the Oliver Fire Department.

Cody’s grandmother Pearl De Prez said it was nice to see the approximately 75 people wearing nice colours.

“We sent Cody off with many balloons drifting. I know he’s watching us all from above and smiling . . . since he was a real prankster.”

A huge sympathy card made by Kim Marsh from Oliver sat beside a lit candle in Cody’s memory.

Amanda spoke about her son’s influential smile and his courage. At one point she called him her “miracle baby.”

Cody was buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

Various fundraising activities have been organized in Oliver. For example, a bottle drive is being held this Saturday at the T2 Recycling depot from 11 am to 2 pm.

A family trust fund has been established at the Royal Bank of Canada. Donations are accepted under transit #04080, institution #003, and account #5000567.
