TELUS technicians have implemented a temporary solution, restoring cell phone service to the Oliver area after vandals damaged a tower west of Oliver last week.

Media relations spokesperson Liz Sauve said they are still working towards a permanent solution, which will take a little longer given the magnitude of the damage involved.

“In the meantime, residents should be back up and running and have restored service.”

Sauve said technicians installed a temporary wireless site which is boosting coverage. “But we’re still all hands on deck working towards fully restoring the site.”

Last Thursday it was discovered that someone toppled a 45-metre tower on a hilltop west of Oliver. This resulted in degraded and intermittent cell phone service.

The RCMP continue to investigate and ask for the public’s help in catching the perpetrators.
