Starting at 1:30 pm, Southern Okanagan Secondary School will be a busy place on Thursday, Feb. 6.
That’s when Minister of Education Peter Fassbender will officially open the new facility with other honoured guests.
Students will sing “O Canada” led by Saige Carlson, and student drummers will perform the traditional Okanagan Song. The minister will tour the school, and Link Crew students will lead tours for the public until 7 pm. There will also be self-guided tours.
The library will be set up with memorabilia and old yearbooks for people to enjoy.
A slide show will be presented to capsulate the true spirit of the school.
Drama teacher Alison Podmorow will guide her senior acting class in a rehearsal (starting at 3 pm) of The Wizard of Oz, slated for production this spring.
Basketball games will start at 4:30 pm and run until 7:30 pm.
There will also be Indo-Canadian and native dancing from 6-7 pm.
Other events include an international snack bar hosted by the languages department (3-5 pm). In addition, there will be students demonstrating SmartBoards as well as DVD and sweatshirt sales.
Honoured guests will include Osoyoos Indian Band Chief Clarence Louie and Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson. Master of Ceremonies will be Principal Marcus Toneatto.
