As the Town of Osoyoos moves into its tourism off-season, town council has voted to release three of the temporary bylaw officers that were appointed earlier this year and add a new full-time officer to the ranks.
Brendan Gojevic, Grace Elvik, Parveen Lidher and Bhupinder Ladhar, who provided seasonal bylaw enforcement support for the town during its busy spring and summer months, have now officially had their appointments rescinded. Cameron Vanderkamp, another seasonal hire, will remain with the town on an on-call basis.
The number of year-round bylaw enforcement officers also received a boost moving into the colder months, as Shaun Sibert was appointed to join their ranks on a full-time basis beginning November 14.
Sibert’s background is in corrections but he has served as a bylaw enforcement officer in Vernon and Kelowna, and spent some time as a transit bylaw officer in Calgary.
Bylaw enforcement officers “educate the public about municipal bylaws, conduct inspections for unsightly premises, investigate complaints and animal control,” in the words of the town’s report to council, and will “[work] together to create public education campaigns on various Town bylaws and other issues that arise.”
