In an effort to maintain air quality as cold air stays stagnant, Washington State has imposed a burning ban on Okanogan County just south of Osoyoos.

There are no similar restrictions in the Kamloops Fire District on the Canadian side of the border, which includes Osoyoos.

The Stage 1 ban prohibits all outdoor burning. Use of uncertified indoor wood burning devices including fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts is also prohibited unless they are a home’s only adequate source of heat.

The ban also affects other nearby counties in Washington.

Environment Canada is forecasting the cold air to remain in place until Thursday with temperatures to return to the plus side after Friday.
