A small brush fire on Oliver Mountain this afternoon was deemed suspicious by the Oliver Fire Department.

Spokesman Rob Graham said they received a couple of calls regarding a smoke sighting, so firefighters used the Oliver Mountain Recreational Area road access to reach the location off Willowbrook Road.

Graham said it was a surface fire burning brush and grass, approximately 40 feet by 200 feet. Firefighters used the quick spray system off of their duty truck, while other members used portable backpack bladder systems to extinguish the fire.

Graham said there was no evidence of a campfire, but the incident was “definitely suspicious.” He noted there are walking trails in the area.

He noted if the wind had picked up, the fire could have easily spread.
