The Town of Oliver has extended its “Boil Water Advisory” for Systems 1 and 3 and based on recent laboratory testing the advisory has been extended to all in-town and rural residents that receive a water bill from the Town of Oliver (Systems 1 to 7) with the exception of System 2 (Black Sage Rd area).
The original Boil Water Advisory was sent out in the early afternoon of July 17, with Rochelle Lougheed, Corporate Officer for the Town of Oliver saying the laboratory results indicated a “higher level of ‘background colony’ and under an abundance of caution and in consultation with Interior Health, we issued the advisory.
The Town says the Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until further notice and that it is “actively working to resolve the issue and restore normal water conditions”. This will include testing once a day.
Residents will be notified as soon as the Boil Water Advisory is lifted and it is safe to resume normal water use.
Meanwhile the following precautions are recommended:
- Boil water used for drinking purposes for at least one minute at a rolling boil prior to use;
- Boil water for activities where it may be ingested;
- Do not drink from any public drinking fountains in the affected area;
- People ay use the water for washing and bathing;
- Ensure that younger children and infants are sponge bathed.
