TOWN WITHHOLDING OCCUPANCY PERMIT FOR CACTUS RIDGE

If all goes as he hopes, Farouk Shah, owner of the Cactus Ridge Retirement Residence on Main Street, will have an occupancy permit for his development in the very near future.
“The municipality is doing what they can,” Shah said, adding he is also working hard to deliver some necessary details about the project to the Town of Osoyoos so the development can get the permit and open its doors to residents.

‘I PERSONALLY DON’T THINK THERE’S A FUTURE IN APPLES’

After the 2008 harvest, Rambir Kambo decided to pull out his 1.2 hectares of apple trees and plant cherries instead.
“I personally don’t think there’s a future in apples,” he said. “Not in the Okanagan. Not in Canada, period.”
Kambo has being an orchardist since 1998, and has previously been on the executive of the B.C. Fruit Growers’ Association.

“The nature of this disease is such that it completely robs you of your independence but leaves the mind sharp. There is no pain or loss of feeling,” said former Osoyoos resident Les Hart. “I am a prisoner in my own body.”
Les, who was born in Oliver in 1965, grew up in Osoyoos.
Until recent years, his mother and father, Richard and Sheila Hart, lived here too.
