Jeff AsheLocal businessman Jeff Ashe is once again trying to win a seat on Oliver Town council.

Ashe said he wants to be part of the decision making process in Oliver as it grows in population and economic prosperity.

Ashe’s platform is “smart planning” for commercial and residential growth.

He said truck routes need to be considered, bylaw enforcement needs to be improved, and growth at the Oliver airport needs to be addressed by local citizens who are impacted by noise and possible hazards.

What assets can he bring to the council table?

“I am a local businessman with fresh ideas and thinking, and a buy-local mentality if it can be supplied locally at a reasonable price.”

Ashe is director of sales accounts for CanadaFit, which provides fitness equipment.

When asked if council has done a good job, he said yes, but noted there is always room for improvement.

Ashe suggests a link to the Town’s portal where locals can sign up for current news and meeting agendas (straight to email inboxes).

On other community issues, Ashe believes that jobs with the new correctional centre should be kept local.

“If you live in Oliver, the first option for training and jobs should go to local qualified people”

On economic development, Ashe would like to set up a discussion about attracting new businesses to Oliver. When asked why should residents vote for him, Ashe said he brings fresh ideas and a new perspective to the table.
