We give Electoral Area C candidates their last kick at the can before the election by asking a two-part question: What is the one issue you feel most strongly about in this election, and how can you make a difference to benefit your constituents?
Rick Knodel
The primary issue facing area “C” at this moment is poorly thought out and badly written by laws.
At the forefront is the signage by law.
If applied as written this would be absolutely devastating to a large number of farms and small businesses. It also would create a serious number traffic hazards as there is no allowance for directional or advance turn off information.
As it is recognized that there is a need for regulation in this area it would be necessary to suspend enforcement of this by law pending a full review.
It is a given that a citizens advisory council be formed to gather the information needed to rewrite this and other regulations to fit the delicate economy of the area.
We cannot pull and insert regulations from other districts and municipalities as this is both lazy and destructive.
The one size fits all method will not work.

Joel Malcolm did not submit responses to our questions by press time.
Here is part of what he offers constituents on his website, www.joelmalcolm.com
Open and keep open the Area C planning committee doors to all.
Provide regular written reporting on all RDOS actions affecting Area C.
Support the elimination of artificial inter-provincial wine trade barriers.
Remain his own man by remaining unaffiliated with any and all political parties.
Represent and fight for your views as if he were walking in your collective shoes.
Answer any and all of your questions believing that there are only dumb answers.
Terry Schafer
There is no one issue that supersedes another.
When I’m talking to affected constituents who have grievances I take them all seriously whether it be regarding water issues, highway safety issues or invasive species like Norway rats that threaten our area
I understand and will do my utmost to address their concerns to the best of my ability.
How can I make a difference to benefit our constituents?
Firstly by being available. My telephone number is 250 498 3542 and my email is [email protected].
I want everyone to know they shouldn’t hesitate to call with their Area C concerns. I will act with responsiveness and follow through, expediently directing concerns to the appropriate agency for action.
I intend to learn about and research issues as they come along so that I can make well informed decisions at the board table.
I will also work to maintain a healthy relationship with the other local governments.
