The annual show of Artists on Main at The Art Gallery Osoyoos is always a highlight for those who enjoy seeing the work of local painters.

The group of mostly Osoyoos-based painters has been a fixture in the community for close to seven decades, but every year’s show provides a look at fresh work.

Sharon Leonard, an organizer of this year’s show, said the group currently has 63 registered members, but at the time of her interview, it was still unclear how many of those members would be participating.

Members range in skill level from beginners to highly accomplished and everything in between.

And, although the focus of the artists is paintings, their subject matter covers a wide range from landscapes to portraits to abstract and more.

This year’s show is titled Reflective Moments, but Leonard said it’s not a theme that artists are bound to.

“It can be anything,” she said.

The show officially runs from this Saturday, Oct. 6 to Saturday, Oct. 27, but there’s an opening reception this Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Also, there’s a “soft opening” on Wednesday, meaning that people can drop by and see the show even before it officially launches.

The show will include a small memorial to long-time member, Helen Fisher, who died Oct. 31, 2017 at the age of 98.

“Helen was the heart of the group,” said Leonard. “She listened to all our complaints, never giving advice, but helping us find our own solution. She was loved by all and is greatly missed.”

The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. at 8713 Main Street, just west of town hall.

Artists on Main always welcomes new members. Their studio is upstairs from the gallery.
