We weren’t going to mention this because, quite frankly, we’re getting tired of constantly complaining about the justice system. But we couldn’t let this fly under the radar.

Penticton Western News reporter Dale Boyd said it all in his lead about a recent court case involved 40-year-old Joshua James Doell: “A Summerland man charged with aggravated assault while on bail for another alleged assault was granted bail on Tuesday.”

At first we thought we read it wrong, until we saw a headline in the Penticton Herald that read: “Man charged with assault out on bail for Christmas.”

We’re guessing the best time of year to commit serious crimes is Christmas since some judges are in a forgiving mood. At least Judge Gale Sinclair was in this case.

Doell was on bail for an assault charge when the Crown alleged that he committed another assault against a man by stabbing him in the back.

Regardless of the circumstances, the accused should not have been granted bail again. To say this was lenient is the understatement of the year.

No wonder the Canadian justice system is such a farce.

Round two is Ronald Teneycke’s civil claim against a warden and a supervisor at Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre.

The notorious prolific offender is just now filing the claim that the correctional supervisor is to blame for him suffering physical harm in prison. The claim also alleges that the supervisor used his position of authority to place Teneycke in a filthy area, and that surgery was required to address a severe infection.

We don’t imagine Teneycke will get much sympathy from the court, but judging from what has transpired lately, you’ve got to wonder.

Enough ridiculousness. Let’s move on to more ridiculousness, but at least it’s something you can genuinely laugh at.
