Oliver’s fire chief is advising people to call before they conduct any outdoor burning this spring.

Bob Graham said the department has responded to numerous grass fires lately involving residents burning material on non-burn days.

Over the weekend, members attended a property on Highway 97 at Island Road where a resident was burning on a non-burn day.

“It got away along the edge of the road,” Graham said.

The fire department stopped it utilizing one truck.

Another outdoor burn on Sandpoint Drive and Sage Road (off McKinney Road) on Friday was a controlled burn on the wrong venting day, Graham said.

He stated the resident was actually doing a good thing by cleaning up brush on his property, but it was a non-burn day.

“Please contact the fire department before you are going to burn,” Graham said, noting he can advise people on how to prevent potential problems.
