A property owner on Black Sage Road was issued a violation ticket for burning on Saturday after it got out of control and started a grass fire.

Oliver Fire Department spokesperson Rob Graham said crews responded to a brush fire on the side of the road (near the landfill) just before 1 p.m. On arrival, they observed a burn operation.

“The fire had spread quickly through the grass and some cardboard that had been collected beside the road, Graham said, noting the flames spread to a tractor parked nearby.

“Crews dumped a bunch of water on it quickly and kept it from spreading too far.”

Graham said crews were on the scene for a couple of hours making sure the fire was out.

No injuries were reported.
