Are you ready to shop local this holiday season? Do you want to complete your shopping list all in one outing? Do you want to enjoy an all-day, family friendly event celebrating the holidays?

On Sunday, December 1, you’re going to want to head down to Cottonwood Plaza in Osoyoos, where The Lake Village Bakery is bringing together a collection of local artisans, cuisine, wine, beer and spirits for the inaugural  East Osoyoos Christmas Market.

Reminiscent of the classic outdoor German holiday markets, the East Osoyoos Christmas Market is the first of its kind in Osoyoos.

The Lake Village Bakery owners Meagan and Ian Young-Bibby are excited to bring this event to town with the help of Nikki Dawn of Fete Event Rentals and Locke Property Management.

“When we travelled through Europe a few years back, some of our favourite memories are from enjoying the market atmosphere during our time in Germany. From Munich to Nuremberg to Stuttgart, people were out and about every day, taking in the fresh baked goods, gluhwein (hot mulled wine), and all of the different crafters displaying their goods. We loved it!” Meagan said.

For the inaugural market, the organizers have planned it for 12 to 5 p.m., in hopes of seeing it grow to an all day and evening affair in the future.

“In Europe, these markets can last over two weeks, even a month depending on the city it’s in, and we’d love to see this market grow to be more than just an afternoon,” Ian added.

Local cuisines present will include Osoyoos Pho, Pete’s Za and The Lake Village Bakery, with beverages from Wolf Tree Coffee, Liber Farms and Nighthawk Vineyards and Firehall Brewery.

A wide variety of local, artisan crafters will be selling everything from jewelry to body care products to accessories to preserves, providing the perfect opportunity to shop local for your Christmas gifts.

The East Osoyoos Christmas Market will be free to attend, but donations for the South Okanagan Food Bank will be collected.
