A man is facing charges related to two robberies at Oliver businesses and is on court conditions not to be in the South Okanagan town.
Joshua Penner was arrested on July 12 and charged with robbery. He appeared in court in Penticton on July 15 and, according to RCMP, was released with conditions “one being to no longer be a resident of Oliver, B.C.” states an RCMP press release.
RCMP allege that on July 4 at around 10:20 p.m. Penner entered the Chevron Gas Station on Main Street in Oliver wielding a large knife and demanded money from the cashier. He was given less than $100 and several packs of cigarettes before leaving the store. The male was wearing dark clothing and a mask over his face.

Just over a week later on July 12, around 06:45 p.m. RCMP allege Penner entered the Oliver Family Grocery on Main Street wielding a large knife and demanded money from the cashier. Police say he was wearing dark clothing and had a mask over his face
“During the incident the cashier was able to pull at the mask the suspect was wearing enough to see the suspect’s face. The male was given a small amount of cash before he left the store. An Oliver RCMP member who had knowledge of the robbery at the Chevron Gas Station along with it’s evidence and using the description of the male from the robbery at the Oliver Family Grocery was able to identify the suspect male,” states the RCMP press release.
RCMP say Penner was new to the community of Oliver. Both incidents are still under investigation.
Penner is due back in court in Penticton on July 31 to consult legal counsel.
